Chapter 37 : Sleep-Work (School Rant)

Ever since school started I've been trying to catch up with sleep as much as I can so that I can have enough energy to feel prepared for the next day, and the next day and the next day... So much so that I feel like sleeping while typing this post. Why haven't I been able to catch up with sleep you may ask? Well, I have remedial lessons after school till 5pm or 5.30pm which gives me only Recess, 30 minutes after school till Remedial and the rest of the time from the time I reach home to sleep but before I can sleep when I reach home, I have to do something which every student in Singapore has to do, have Dinner and do Homework. Some homework can be short and sweet and easy to complete, some can be long and tiring and require a lot of research, some homework are done in advance so that I can reduce the amount of homework, some homework are done during my free periods or recess time. That's how much time I spend doing homework and revision when I have the time and usually when I complete my homework it's about 9.30pm already.

I'm not complaining about the need for homework, I'm just stating the issue that the amount of homework received on a daily basis should be reduced, I know the school's trying to pressure us to achieve excellence maybe I just need some time to adapt to a lifestyle from 7am - 5pm and then spend the rest of the time doing homework and then start the day all over again, but all I'm saying is that it would really help if the homework is reduced, sometimes some teachers don't even go through the homework that is done which makes it meaningless if they don't go through with us and some even forget they gave us homework...

What I'm saying is that in order to have sufficient energy to pay attention in class and attend remedial lessons daily, we also need to have enough sleep, I'm sure the teachers also crave for sleep as well because everyday they spend the equal or even more time marking the assignments and homework, so everyone should have a fair share to be fair, less homework, less homework to mark, at most just get students to complete the work as much as they can during lesson time and complete the remaining few questions that is not complete at home so that they have lesser questions to answer or solve. Win-Win Situation for both the teachers and students.

In some cases, students that have tons of homework can feel stress because of the need to complete or they will have to face the rules that has been set by the school or teacher for not being able to uphold excellence by handing in homework on time and they'll feel guilty and feel bad about themselves for not being able to cope, while some of them may even result to copying homework from another person which only contributes 50% to their learning as it was not entirely attempted by them and it doesn't make any difference to not being able to gain any knowledge but only doing so because they either

a) have enough respect for the teacher to complete the homework so as to not disappoint them
or
b) to prevent from getting punished by the teacher for not handing in homework on time.

Homework can be a leisure and yet it can be a torture to some, it's just a matter of how you look at it, I tend to look at homework as a form of leisure, having to get the right answer after each Math question makes me feel smart in a way or getting a comprehension question correct makes me feel good about myself and when I get a question wrong, I just have to learn from my mistake and not repeat it again during the exams but when the homework start to pile up, it can be a bit of a torture and affect my sleep hours.

And with this, I hope you have a goodnight rest just like how I'm going to sleep now!!!

Chapter 35 : My Future

My own poster! That's right, I'm officially launching my own Blog Facebook Page today.

-------------------------------------------------------

I will be talking about my future today, what I intend to do once I graduate from Secondary School and what I want to become in the long-run. I am a very indecisive person, I always get inspired by someone or something easily and get motivated but when the inspiration is gone, I get demotivated and just forget everything that I used to be so inspired and motivated about.

When I was in Secondary 1, I wanted to be an English Teacher till Secondary 3, I was inspired by "The Pupil" (Local Drama Series on Channel 5) that made me want to become a lawyer. In Secondary 4, I kept visiting the hospital so often that I got inspired to be a Doctor and now that I'm in Secondary 5, I want to be an Accountant because of the fact that I did well for Principle of Accounts and that's like my strongest subject and the fact that I am interested in it! I think I would be a happy accountant. So my current goal in life is to become an Accountant and take up a Diploma in Accountancy in Ngee Ann when I graduate.

However, I won't be an Accountant my whole life, I would like to share my experiences which would lead me back to my dream job in Secondary 1, an English Teacher but instead of teaching English, I intend to teach Principle of Accounts! That's basically my plan, although I know the journey won't be as smooth sailing as I think it will be, but getting to the end of my destination is the most important, at least I can die with no regrets right? I can look back at this chapter in my life and tell people that I really did accomplish this dream of mine that I had when I was young.

But you might be wondering, if I aspire to be an accountant, why on earth am I blogging, well, blogging would be more of a hobby to me, I don't blog often and usually when I do, I do it during my leisure time or when I feel that I haven't posted a chapter in a long time.

Have you thought about your dream/future? I know I have.

Chapter 34 : Lazy Sunday

(My eyes do look a little swollen in the picture, idk why, blame the camera? :P)

The title says it all, a lazy Sunday it was indeed, woke up at 7 in the morning, did my usual round of jog, went to sign up for tuition (the best part of the day), apparently I will be taking tuition for Math and Combined Science (P/C), these are the subjects I'm kinda weak in, especially math, hopefully tuition might do the trick for me. Went home after that, showered, did my homework without complaining, took the dog out for a walk, cousin and niece came over, and writing this post, that was basically my day and if you didn't already know, I've been coughing up a storm this entire week, it hasn't stop yet and only got worse yesterday...

English Homework, argumentative essay "We can't live without our mobile phones" Discuss your view. (I should totally do an argumentative essay on my blog one day with my own topic.)

 Math Homework, yay inequalities.

My messy, untidy table that has yet to be tidied up.

I am waiting for this day to come so that I can have a good break over the Chinese New Year, I know, school just started and I want a break already... but who wouldn't want a break?!

Decided to take some pictures of the plants by the corridor.

That's all, till my next Chapter!

*P/S: I forgot to mention that tomorrow will be the release of the O level results for the batch of 2011, all the best for tomorrow!
P/P/S : Part 2 of the Poly Trip will be up soon, keep a look out for that!

Chapter 33 : Poly Visits Part 1

On 4th Jan 2012, Wednesday, the school brought the Secondary 5 classes and a few of the Secondary 4 Express Students over to Singapore Poly for SP's Open House, whereby students get to know more about what polytechnic courses are about and the courses they offer.

Firstly, even before alighting the bus, we were given a goodie bag filled with stuff that may or may not be useful to some of us, I personally didn't really touch some of the stuff cause they were mostly just random stuff, or brochures. When we alighted, we were given a short tour of the campus (not the whole campus) and started off our journey starting with the School of Engineering, where they had this Engineering Fair with all the first/second/third year students showcasing their projects they did in school and explaining to us about their project and how it is helpful to the user or how environmentally friendly it is to our society!

After briefly browsing through a few of the booths at the Engineering Fair, we were then allowed to have a free & easy moment around the campus where we get to see other courses other than just Engineering, went to the main area that had all the booths from the different schools, checked on accountancy first, followed by the rest of the other interesting courses. Went home rather early around 5pm or earlier, but before reaching home, Paul made a detour to Lot 1 to have his subway while I went to Popular to get all the files and books I needed for school and went home to rest, do homework, prepare for the next day.

So far, I guess Singapore Poly is rather okay, it's like the largest polytechnic in Singapore, so they can hold up to many students per course I guess except for those limited and high in demand courses, they even have like dorms, so maybe one day if I find travelling thru and fro from school to home tiring, I can stay at the dorm! (which also means I must cook, clean, wash everything by myself, so I rather feel tired and still have a bowl of rice served every night at home!) They do have interesting courses as well, however I didn't had the time to spare to go through all the courses, cause my bag was freaking heavy on that day and I couldn't bear it any longer having to stand and listen to people when I feel like sitting down. Hmm... however, I would say Singapore Polytechnic wouldn't be my first choice though, I have something in mind already, I guess.

*P/S: There will be a Part 2, this part is only on Singapore Poly, next part will be on Ngee Ann Poly!

Chapter 32 : School Daze

Why did I take a picture of myself while I'm on the phone? I really don't know ;x But as promised, I would try to add pictures to my post, and oh, if you've noticed I had a haircut, it's really not my style, but it's good to try something different for the new year.

Tomorrow is the day that school reopens officially, and Singaporean Secondary School Students have to return to school or start their school year. It's amazing how some time ago I was only a Secondary 1 Student and a Secondary 5 student now, time does fly, high.

School's going to start in less than 10 hours, and I should probably be catching up with sleep now or I'll look like I'm unprepared for school. People tend to ask me the same question, are you ready for school? I'll tell them, yes, I am ready for school. Why am I ready for school? Cause I just want to get this year over and done with as soon as possible. For those of you who dread school, be optimistic a lil, you can do lots of stuff in school like, reunite with classmates you didn't had a chance to meet up with over the holidays, learn something new (probably a new cooking skill or a new craft skill), just think of the brighter side of a situation.

I went out today all the way to Farrer Park's City Square Mall just to get my last few school books that I couldn't get at my nearby book stores and bought a new file, tried MakeShake and it was good. Shaping up to be a good year so far.
